RTC PhotoWork: When to schedule a newborn session

Before I get too far into it, I have to laugh as Tristan (of 9 weeks) is curled up napping in a Boppy pillow.  He still prefers to be totally curled up, and if he is sitting on our chests he is in the froggy position (albeit not SO tightly curled as a fresh baby) that looks so absolutely adorable in newborn photos.  I guess he's just always liked it to be in a little ball, and I can only thank him for that.  (It prevented me from getting huge even though I gained [...]

Shooting with the difficult client.

What to do with the client that seems to be trying to get out of that final bill.  The problem is that a client can rarely communicate what they want in Photo talk. Often catch phrases they are using is not what they think it means. And. More times than you expect, you can take the greatest image of the year, but it was not what they want....period,  But they do not know how to communicate what they really want and how to shoot it.  I am currently shooting a website for a [...]

Shooting thru Hard times

A Professional photographer starts with a dynamic vision of who he/she is and the type of work he specializes. For me its only two areas: Architectural(which includes most commercial location shooting, architecutre, travel Photography, and in times of extreme boredom real estate) and Advertising Photography(which includes food, jewelry, and most any type of Ad). I personally take great pride in keeping my specialization to a narrow spector. Not that I cant do other type of photography. I [...]

Charging People is Tricky

Charging People is Tricky I deal with large companies that make millions of dollars, mom & pop shops that only make thousands, and non-profit organizations that usually want "donated work."I usually like to find the budget (ex. $300-$800) to stay under, then add/subtract from what the client expects to be done for that price. Most people want to charge a per hour (usually $45 for Graphic Design Services) or get a flat rate for something. But it's never that easy. You and the client [...]
