Phone calls on the new iPad
Â
Iâve been using the âNewâ iPad if thatâs what itâs being called since launch day. Â Itâs been a real joy and a real productivity booster. Â Iâm not really sure why Iâm getting so much more done on it but I am. Â Iâm suddenly writing more on it, reading a lot more of my email on it and getting a lot more work done with it while away from my computer. Â Given it is an AT&T iPad so I can work anywhere I have reception and itâs 4G so itâs super fast here in Los Angeles when browsing and syncing documents. Â Iâm even writing this blog post on the iPad using a bluetooth keyboard. Â And making calls canât be easier with the Bria app by CounterPath using my Phone.com account. Â Single calls, conference calls, calls with bridges, itâs all a piece of cake. Â I even have a stand for the iPad and sit it up next to my computer screen so I can read mail on it as it comes in. Â Tablets seem to be the way of the future, not a fad that will pass like the ultra mini netbooks that were so popular just 3 years ago.
As great as the iPad is, itâs having voice communication ie. Phone.com that brings it all together.  If you have an iPad I suggest and yes I know it costs but itâs well worth it, the Bria app and add an extension to your account for it.  Iâve become a powerhouse with just a simple tablet.  I think this is the way of the future.  I see myself very soon using the iPad with Phone.com more then using my computer that doesnât act as a phone yet⦠ Itâs only a matter of time until employees all have tablets and can do everything they need to on it.

Block And Unblock Calls With *9
At Phone.com we pride ourselfs on having top notch customer service, I was in a meeting last week talking about common customer service questions and our Call Blocking feature came up. Â Customers want to know how to block incoming callers (typically spammers). Â We have a solution that it seems like many people donât know about. Â Itâs *9, when you dial * (star) 9 during a call that you receive the number will be placed in a blocked list. Â This number can never call you again, unless you unblock them. Â
This means that next time you get a call about refinancing your home or lowering your car insurance, you can just dial *9 and never hear from those people again. Â Keep in mind this will only work for callers with exposed caller ID. Â
This feature is active and available on all our calling plans. Â If you accidentally block someone you can just dial *9 again and unblock them. Â If you want to block or unblock a call after itâs over you can easily go to your control panel. Â Select Settings then Call Blocking. Â Select the number you want to unblock from the Spam Caller List and click on the Trash Can image all the way to the right of the number. Â If you want to add a number to the blocked list you can click Block all the way to the right of the number under the Recent Calls list. Â
Weâre here to support you, so if you have any questions about how to use our service feel free to call our customer service line 24/7 or even better drop us a line on Facebook or Twitter. Â Donât forget to Like or Follow us.

Home Phone Plus, Easier To Install Then Any Other
As I explained earlier this week Iâm upgrading my home internet to the big V as my provider. Â Well today was the big day and well it happened. Â Boy was it a pain. Â I started 2 weeks ago by ordering it and being told a week from Friday you need to be home from 8am until 5pm. Â Yup I couldnât leave my house the entire day, no biggie I guess. Â So Ray shows up (Iâm changing his name for his job security) and starts explaining everything to me. Â This is going to be a long job, it took over 5 hours and he was going to have to do a lot of drilling. Â This was in the name of getting a rather good deal, getting out from under my home phone carriers grip and switching to Home Phone Plus from Phone.com. Â
Iâm going to focus on the big Vâs home phone landline installation. Â First off Ray had to install 2 boxes in my bedroom to control and support the fibre land line. Â Then he had to run a wire from in the house through the wall to the outside by drilling right through my bedroom wall. Â This didnât make me happy to say the least. Â Then he mounted 2 boxes the total size of a small coffee maker on the wall. Â Can you guess how unhappy I am with this process. Â Then there was running all kinds of wires and plugs underneath my house. Â Yes this took nearly 5 hours. Â Yes this is what Iâm paying for and yes I really hope you readers appreciate what Iâm doing for you because in approximately 50 days as soon as I can get out of this contract Iâm going to ditch all this equipment for Home Phone Plus, something Iâve been wanting to do for almost 2 years now. Â
You may be asking where this is going beyond a rant and Iâll tell you. Â Installing the Phone.com ATA takes all of 2 minutes and involves NO drilling, NO climbing under my house, NO running attaching wires to the outside of my house, NONE of that. Â Itâs as simple as plugging in our ATA to your modem and plugging your hand line phone into the ATA. Â Oh wait, you have to also plug the power cord into the back of the ATA and and outlet. Â I know I know this all seems so simple compared to the big Vâs 5 hour fiasco today but thatâs the point. Â I have helped a handful of people set up our ATAâs and it has never taken more than a couple minutes and that was only because I had to untangle some of their wires. Â
Phone.com has an enourmously superior VOIP phone solution to the national carriers, itâs so simple my 80 year old mother in law can figure it out and sheâs not all that tech savvy. Â If youâre even considering switching phone services I canât recommend highly enough Home Phone Plus. Â Check it out and let me know what you think.

Home Phone Plus Making My Life Easier
Anyone who knows me or has read many of the blog posts on here should know that I like it when technology makes my life easier. Â Like the mobile phone allowing me to take my conversations with me wherever I go. Â Or the laptop making my office mobile. Â Well in 64 days I can finally move my home phone service over to Phone.com from the big red V. Â Iâm having to finagle my way out of big redâs clutches but I canât wait. Â Whatâs the big deal you ask, convenience is the answer. Â My mother in law, as wonderful of a woman as she is, just never calls our cell phones first, she always dials our home number leaves a message then calls our cell phones. Â
Thereâs also the family and friends that live outside the US and get a cheaper calling rate if they call a landline versus a cell phone so they always try our home number first. Â
Thatâs where Phone.comâs Home Phone Plus comes in, Iâm going to forward all our incoming calls to our cell phones, starting just on the weekends and weâll experiment from there. Â
Then thereâs the spam phone calls. Â We get at least 2 a day and usually 3 or more and they drive me nuts. Â NO I donât want to put a new roof on my house. Â NO I donât want to lower my interest rate and NO I donât want to refinance. Â I sound like my father when I say this but Iâm going to take the time to block every single spam caller. It may be fruitless because they call from so many different numbers but Iâm still going to block them. Â
Now we can move onto the wonderful family members who call way too late or very early in the morning because they did the math wrong when they calculated the time in Southern California. Â We have a lot of family overseas and I canât tell you how many times Iâve gotten calls at 4am from a confused cousin. Â
I could go on and on but I wonât, Iâm just pointing out that Home Phone Plus is going to make my life much easier. Â Additionally Home Phone Plus is less then $10/month versus almost $40/month weâve been paying. Â
To tell you Iâm excited to make the switch to Phone.com is an understatement, Iâm over the moon and Iâll blog lots more about it when it finally happens.
