Is a Kids’ Cholesterol Test Safe?
It should be well known that childhood obesity is on the rise. The continual concern with how to fight the U.S. epidemic has doctors all across the country arguing points of view. A recent decision by the American Academy of Pediatrics to encourage all children between 9-11 years of age to get cholesterol tests is the source of many debates. One of the major concerns is that to be done properly, the test must be conducted during a ‘fasting’ level, which involves the parents keeping the child from snacking and eating, then taking said child to the doctors to be poked with needles. While certainly something needs to be done to decrease the child obesity in the country, it is unclear whether a Kids’ Cholesterol test is the way to do it.

It seems that every year near the end of summer wildfires start up and endanger not only physical property, but also the health of those in the area. One of the best ways to protect your child from the air pollution associated with wildfires is to keep them inside as much as possible, particularly if your child suffers from respiratory conditions, such as asthma. Additionally, if your immediate area was affected by a wildfire check with officials that your water is okay to drink. Pollutants easily seep into natural water wells during the fighting of a wildfire.
