Contributor Profile July
This month on The Skinny, we're excited to feature an illustrator, Li Tzu Chien. He creates delightful vector backgrounds that feature a variety of colorful and whimsical characters.
Li Tzu Chien began creating his staple patterns and cartoon-style illustrations while making backgrounds and doing web design work as a student of design in Taiwan.
He's always enjoyed creating playful animal and human vectors, and hopes his work will save designers time. Li Tzu Chien's art definitely adds an endearing and creative element to any design project.

Contributor Profile June 2012
Introducing Ryan Jorgensen (Jorgo), this month's featured contributor on The Skinny. Jorgensen recognized photography as his true calling in 2006 while working as a graphic designer for an advertising agency. He began to pursue photography full time when it become evident that his uncanny vision and powerful inspiration would pave the way to a promising career.
Jorgensen explores the macabre side of photography, revealing the mysteries that lie in the hidden corners of our minds. Inspired by historic events, vintage portraits, fantasy, and mysteries, his work is a unique juxtaposition of horror and beauty.
It's rare to find such stunning photography that stimulates the imagination and calls on conflicting emotions-love, anger, humor, curiosity, and despair. Within each of his images is a story-one we're excited to welcome to Veer.

Featured Contributor Johan Swanepoel
We're proud to announce that Johan Swanepoel is this month's Featured
Contributor. Hailing from South Africa with a background in engineering and
construction management, Swanepoel pursued his passion for photography as
young man in the era of manual cameras and darkrooms.
We love his intimate wildlife photographs-powerful additions to the Veer library.
While he claims to value modern digital equipment and techniques, when asked if
he is a wildlife photography "purist" - Swanepoel says:
"No, cropping, healing, cloning, composites, etc., are part of the tools in order to
create the image I have in mind. The final goal will mostly dictate the rules. When
looking casually at images, I rarely question the processes involved, but rather
appreciate the message or beauty of the subject."

Pantone Easter eggs
This is a seasonal decoration that only a designer could conceive (or create so flawlessly): Easter eggs that look like Pantone color swatches. The best part is that they're surprisingly simple to make - designer Jessica Jones includes DIY instructions on her blog. A new spring tradition.
Type that's above the fold
Typogami is a font inspired by the Japanese art of origami and kirigami - the glyphs look like they're made from folded paper. Not only that, you can tweak everything from color and fold angles to angle of light and the intensity of shadows. Designer Calango has created an animated version and a static version. Frustro: The impossible typeface
Inspired by the famous Penrose triangle illusion, Hungarian designer Martzi Hegedűs created Frustro, a highly unconventional sans serif whose characters literally don't line up. In fact, each letterform appears to be facing in two different directions. Whether the font delights you or drives you crazy, there's no denying it makes an eye-catching display face.

A-1 Scrabble designer edition
What began as a student project by designer Andrew Capener has,
with the help of HASBRO and Winning Solutions, become a lovely,
limited edition typographic Scrabble set. The "A-1 Scrabble
designer edition" features solid walnut tiles, an assortment of
fonts, six magnetized pieces of walnut that snap together to make
the board, and a cork-lined storage drawer. In short, it's pretty
fancy.
It's available for
pre-order, and each set is signed and numbered. Unfortunately,
you still have to use the same old Scrabble dictionary.

Simon's sense of snow
On the frozen lakes of Savoie, France, artist Simon Beck walks all day in raquettes (snowshoes) to make elaborate geometric patterns in the snow. He maps his creations using only a sighting compass and sometimes a length of string, and is always at the mercy of the weather -- he redesigns or discontinues patterns as new snow falls. According to Simon, his snow art began as a method of exercise, compelling him to walk for up to nine hours at a stretch.
Also worth a look is the art of Sonja Hinrichsen, who recruits volunteers to make large-scale snow drawings in the United States.
