The banding ceremony will be led by representatives from the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Canadian Peregrine Foundation, with Harlequin’s staff and tenants from 220 Don Mills (the building where the nest box is located) in attendance.
Stay tuned to find out what the hatchlings were named and to see photos from the banding.

Wearing Your Harlequin on Your Sleeve
by visual artist Carrie Ann Schumacher, creator of the (first-ever?) Harlequin dress
In February 2011, while chatting about an unrelated topic, a classmate randomly interjected about a mutual friend, âWe need to find a nice boy for Desi. I think the boy she was seeing in college completely broke her heart.â
I found this hilarious because not a single word of it was true. Naturally, I told Desi, and it became a running joke between the two of us. Whenever weâd bring it up, weâd use her full name, Desiree, of course, because it was all the more poetic and melodramatic. âDesiree and the Boy Who Broke Her Heartâ: it was so catchy, and had all the makings of country songs, epic love stories, and, though I didnât recognize it just yet, a dress.
CSchumacherArt@gmail.com. Several new dress sculptures are in the works â contact her with your ideas for a special project.

Love is Murder: Sandra Brown on her new thriller anthology
âIf a person is known by the company she keeps, then the company of the30 romance and suspense writers in this stellar all-original anthologyspeaks volumes about bestseller Brown. Chockablock with nifty plottwists, these stories arenât to be missed.â- Publishers Weekly STARREDreview
Sandra Brownâs direct, engaging voice has won her a legion of fans, andnow sheâs turned that voice to the role of editor. Â Her fabulous forwardand witty, clever introductions will draw you into this anthology asshe shares her thoughts on todayâs finest thriller writers.
We had a chance to catch up with Sandra, to find out how her creative mind works and what inspires her.
1. Name five things you must have nearby while writing/editing.
I suppose I should say âreference books,â or something intellectual likethat.  But, in truth, I have a cup of French Vanilla Café on a warmer, ascented candle burning somewhere in the room, fresh flowers somewherein the room, a cardigan for when the a/c comes on too cool, and roastedbut unsalted almonds to munch on for energy.  Iâm all about creaturecomfort!
2. What literary character would you like to invite to a dinner party?
Well, not Hannibal Lecter. Â The first name that popped into my mind was Darcy of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. Â After all, 200 years later, he continuesto be the basis of many romantic heroes, so our fascination with himlives on.
3. What is your favorite bad habit?
Daydreaming. Â Although, itâs essential to writing fiction, isnât it?
4. What do you like to do when you are not working?
Reading is still my favorite pastime. Â I read several hours a night. Â Myhusband and I also enjoy time spent with family and friends. Â We go on several mini-vacations throughout the year.
5. Where do you draw from to write the emotionally charged scenes in your books?
From the characters. Â And I donât mean that in a glib way. Â The scenesin my first draft arenât as âemotionally chargedâ as they are by thetime Iâve finished the book. Â In that first draft, the characters and Iare still becoming acquainted. Â I donât yet know how one will react toanger, fear, jealousy. . .name an emotion. Â The characters graduallyreveal aspects of their personality to me, so that, hopefully, by thetime Iâve finished the book, all their emotional responses ring truebecause they came from the characters themselves. Â I didnât impose them.
It was a pleasure having Sandra Brown join us on the blog this week. Do you enjoy thrillers? What is it about this genre that gets your pulse pounding?
