Honda Fit EV Sets New Mileage Standard
Electric cars are slowly hitting the market, and Honda's Fit EV appears to be mileage champ of the upcoming crop, when it comes to miles per gallon equivalent, anyway. The upcoming Fit EV has been rated by the EPA at 118 MPGe combined (132 MPGe city, 105 MPGe highway), and that places it above Mitsubishi's i-Miev (112 combined MPGe) and the Nissan Leaf (99 combined MPGe).
Diet Googles Help Curb Overeating
If you've ever tried to diet, you've probably heard the advice to eat off smaller plates so that it feels like you're eating more food. Now, there's another optionâdiet goggles. Researchers at the University of Tokyo have invented a pair of goggles that help people lose weight (theoretically) by making their food look bigger than it actually is, thus tricking the eater into thinking he or she is eating more.

Turn Your iPhone Into a Scanner
Chances are, if you still own a flatbed scanner, it hasnât done much other than take up space on your desk. Scanners used to be must-have computer accessories, useful for digitizing photographs or documents or the undersides of cats, but now since everyone takes digital photos and creates documents electronically, they mostly act as cumbersome paperweights. But should the odd occasion arise when you need a photo or a document scanned, Scanbox is here to cheaply and efficiently save the day.

You’re Doing It Wrong: Zombies
There’s been lots of talk of zombies lately. To hear the posters and tweeters and “legitimate” reporters tell it, the Florida face-eater, the Maryland heart and brain eater, and the Vancouver body-part mailer all add up to one thing: zombie apocalypse. Of course no one really believes in the zombie apocalypse, but why is everyone calling these people zombies instead of calling them what they really are: cannibals?

Amanda Palmer Gets $1 Million in Kickstarter Funds
Time was, if you were a musician who wanted to get your music out to the masses, you needed to sign to a label, preferably a major label, so you could pay to record your record and take time do tour in support of it. But labels have grown increasingly irrelevant in recent years, and now singer/songwriter Amanda Palmer has shown that musicians can indeed to it all themselves (with a little help from their fans), by raising over $1 million through Kickstarter.

Carroll Shelby's Final Resting Place Not Yet Determined
When Carroll Shelby passed away last month, we figured he'd go to the great junkyard in the sky with dignity. But, alas, it was not to be, as his relatives are squabbling over what to do with his remains. Shelby's body remains in a medical examiner's freezer as his children and his estranged wife, Cleo, argue over who has control over his remains.
Remote FL Island Gets Electricity, Is Outraged
Florida is pretty far behind the times in a lot of ways, but this sort of takes the cake—a remote island called No Name Key is about to get electricity (that's right: up until now, they didn't have it), and they're pretty upset about it. There are only 43 homes on the island, but the residents are embroiled in a lively debate over the matter.
One Million Moms Expresses More Outrage at JCPenney
Anti-gay group One Million Moms has been at war with JCPenney for a while, and now, the group is boycotting (still? again?) the store over a new ad featuring a same-sex couple—two dads, for Father's Day. The ad features real-life dads, not models, Todd Koch and Cooper Smith, playing with their kids, Claire and Mason.

Amelia Earhart Mystery Solved?
New research dealing with Amelia Earhart's record-breaking flight points to the possibility that Earhart didn't immediately die during the transatlantic trip, but that she had sent out distress calls that went unanswered."Amelia Earthart did not simply vanish on July 2, 1937," said Rich Gillespie, the executive director of TIGHAR.

Artist Creates Jesus Popsicles
Brooklyn-based artist Sebastian Errazuriz has created what he calls Christian Popsicles, which were given out at the New York Design Week opening party in New York City. If you’re an artist looking for publicity, there’s one surefire way to get yourself in the press: incorporate religious iconography into your work in a way that insults people of faith. From Andres Serrano’s Piss Christ to Chris Ofili’s The Holy Virgin Mary, artists have managed to raise quite a stink by pissing off Christians.
